EVENT DETAILS & INFORMATION

We're celebrating National Book Month by asking our team members to share their favorite golf reads-books that entertain, teach, and motivate. Starting October 1, stop by Corica Park's lending library to borrow one of these gems. As you add new finds to your reading list, we hope they inspire your game and the life lessons it brings.

Staff Picks:

1. The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown

Recommended by Cheri Corfey, Director of Human Resources

Description: A non-fiction story about nine young men on the University of Washington rowing team and their incredible journey to winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Why I Chose It: “I love a good underdog story! The book offers valuable lessons on teamwork, trust, leadership, and perseverance—all invaluable in golf and life. My youngest son rows for a university, so it was fun relating the events in the book to his experiences.”

2. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig

Recommended by Tamara Sabella, Director of Community Engagement

Brief Description: This classic book uses motorcycle maintenance as a metaphor for life, focusing on the balance between logic and creativity.

Why I Chose It: "This is how I feel about golf! The book's themes of philosophy and mindfulness reflect my experience with the game. I even envision writing a similar book one day."

3. The Legend of Bagger Vance by Steven Pressfield

Recommended by Alma Garcia, Content Creator

Brief Description: A mystical caddy, Bagger Vance, helps a golfer rediscover his authentic swing and purpose during a high-stakes match, blending life lessons with golf's challenges.

Why I Chose It: “This book intertwines golf’s mental and physical challenges with themes of self-discovery. It resonates with me as a golfer, reminding me that success is not just about winning but about finding harmony within ourselves.”

4. The Match by Mark Frost

Recommended by Brett Morrison, Tournament Coordinator

Brief Description: This incredible piece of golf history recounts a private match at Cypress Point in the 1950s between two of the best amateur golfers and two of the best professionals of the time.

Why I Chose It: “The story, set up by a former caddy for Francis Ouimet (the only amateur ever to win the U.S. Open), captures a moment when word spread, and 10,000 spectators arrived for this legendary match. It’s a fantastic read for anyone interested in the history of golf.
