Introducing Bay Area’s Only Australian Sandbelt Style Rees Jones Design Golf Course

The New Corica Park South Course is unlike any in the Bay area.

Architect Rees Jones describes the new course as a minimalist design more like you would find in Australia, where you can play the ball to the hole by air or ground. The new South Course is a playable course year-round due to the modern drainage and infrastructure project that includes environmentally-friendly features like rainwater recapture, drought tolerant turf, and even cart paths constructed of a material that includes recycled asphalt. Most important for golfers will be the course’s emphasis on providing golfers with the ability to play running shots into greens. That means that even a player requiring a long approach shot will have a good chance to make par.

The Alameda complex is now Corica Park. The entire project is part of a focus on re-branding taken up by course manager Greenway Golf in support of the new South Course, which opened June 22, 2018. “I am extremely excited about the next chapter that is about to unfold at the newly branded Corica Park,” said Greenway Golf CEO George Kelley. “What I see is an amazing golf course coming out of the ground and with the new Linksoul Lab we will have a facility that will bring a great deal of pride to the City of Alameda for years to come.”

In addition to the updated name, the golf shop has been fully repurposed to become a “Linksoul Lab”. Linksoul, founded by apparel legend John Ashworth, makes clothing and gear that look good on and off the course. Linksoul is more a philosophy than a brand. More of an experience than a clothing company. Linksoul is the collective life’s work of people who care about each other and enjoy collaborating. Linksoul offerings go well beyond what you’ll find from a traditional apparel company, and the Linksoul Lab at Corica Park will offer a shopping experience that is unique among Northern California courses.. “Corica Park is everything golf should be,” said Linksoul founder John Ashworth. “It’s a hub of the community where all ages and levels of golfers enjoy the game and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
